Getting started with Sniffie
Sniffie is a price monitoring and optimisation service that helps you to collect relevant pricing information from your e-commerce market, analyse it and receive reports on the changes as they happen, export and view different relevant analytics as well as pricing your products based on your pricing strategy and other defining factors.
Our philosophy focuses on easy price data extraction, data segmentation and intuitive user experience with drill down analytics. We are a happy to see you this far. Ready to get started?
Step 1: Make sure that you have proper profile settings
We recommend that you start first by defining your reference website in the profile settings.
Please note that without having defined your reference website you will not be able to view data in Price Matrix.
Reference website settings are modifiable by clicking top right on Sniffie (Usually has the first letter of your name) then select App preferences.
You can also change your language at Sniffie, currently we support Swedish, English and Finnish. We will add more languages in the future. :)
Step 2: Match your products
Sniffie has 3 distinct ways of matching products at Sniffie.
- Matching products using Sniffie intelligent tools
This allows our customers to match products automatically. However, in order for this to work well Sniffie requires a common code (such as EAN code) that the reference catalogue has (your personal products catalogue) with other competitors. In other words this means that the same code that your products have in their data fields need to be in your competitors data. If you are not sure please contact Sniffie team and we´ll help you.
- Matching products by Sniffie automatic matcher (pending release)
This tool is accessible in Sniffie under the "Bulk Operations" field in "Bulk matcher" . This allows automatic matching of products either by a known common code or by product name or other defining factors. This is handy and recommended when the aim is to match a large amount of products that have a clear common code or have exactly the same product name.
- Matching products manually (recommended)
This is accessible in the product catalogue at Sniffie. it allows you to manually match products one by one. This is handy and recommended when you aim to match a small number of products.
Please note that when matching products manually only match to products from your reference website (the reference website is amazon in the video below) (notice how we select it before making any matches) this is done by applying the global filter (as shown in the video) to only your selected website and other defining factors such as category. Check the video below for more information:
To get most out of Sniffie your products should be matched to competing ones. Sniffie will provide you with an automatic suggestion – based on our machine learning algorithm – for a match, that you can then easily confirm, change or remove.
Product match makes sure that your product has a relation to competing products. There are three levels of competing products:
1. Exact – Exact match e.g. Coca-Cola 150ml vs. Coca Cola 1,5dl
2. Substitute – A product that might compete us as a use case e.g. Wooden floor vs. Plastic floor of the same level.
Product matches are confirmed by clicking the Confirm button as seen below and removed by the same way when clicking the Remove button.
In the unlikely scenario in which Sniffie suggests not suitable matches for your product, you can always look for competing products by clicking “search” field and typing a search for the respective product. The search field searches all of you product catalog.
Step 3: Organize your data
Although you have extracted your data into categories you most likely want to divide your products also in to smaller segments and groups. This you can easily with product tags. We’ll show you how its done in just few simple clicks.
To create a group or segment the only thing you need to do is to filter down your products you wish to add to a group, select those products and click the product tag icon on the Table Tool Bar.
Read more on Product Tags and Product Tag Manager.
Step 4: Analyze your data
Now that you have collected, matched and segmented your data you are ready to analyse it whenever. Read more on filters here.
Global Filters can be opened by clicking the filter Icon the top right of Sniffie. Global Filters narrow down the data set and the charts show the value based on your filtered results. Everything is calculated on demand based on your selected Global filters.

Other option steps you can follow (if you wish)
Subscribe to email reports (pending release)
Ecommerce market is often very volatile. Sniffie can be set to monitor and report changes on your behalf. Creating a report means that you receive email notification on the latest market information. Create as many reports as you wish, edit and remove when you prefer. Read more on email reports here (coming soon).
Export data to external systems
Before you rush into getting some data, let us show how you can also take out data to make analyses in other applications such as Excel. Most likely you need processed ecommerce data to your system. Just refer to our product feed documentation (coming soon) to get started. It’s really simple!
We also offer raw extraction data API for all data that is not related to products. You could also use this as your integration layer, although we don’t really recommend it for ecommerce data.
